Samsung Galaxy eSIM Setup for the Balkan Drive
Add your Balkan eSIM to a Galaxy phone: check the EID first, install on Wi-Fi at home, and get the roaming toggles right before the first border.

The two drives this plan is aimed at look different on paper and identical from the driver’s seat. One is a loop through the region for its own sake. The other is the long summer run between western Europe and Türkiye, where this area is about three days of road: navigation all day, border queues to check, a message ahead to say when you will arrive. Either way the phone is doing real work across borders where an EU allowance stops.
That is what a single regional eSIM is for. One prepaid data line, installed next to the SIM you already use, that keeps working when the road changes country instead of sending you to a counter. It roams by design — every network it uses belongs to someone else — which is why the roaming toggle on that line has to be on, and the same toggle on your own SIM has to be off. Say this part out loud before you pack: Türkiye is not covered. The plan stops at the Turkish border and there is no workaround. If your route ends at Kapıkule or Ipsala, buy the separate Türkiye plan in the app as well and change which line carries data once you are through customs. Nobody should reach a Turkish border post assuming this line will follow them across it.
Galaxy phones are the awkward case for eSIM. The tap sequence is stable enough, but support varies by model, region and carrier variant, so two phones with the same name on the box can differ. Step 1
Check your phone actually has an EID
Open the dialler and type *#06#. If an EID appears under the IMEI numbers, the handset has eSIM hardware. Do this before anything else: eSIM support on Galaxy phones depends on the model, the region it was sold in and the carrier variant, and some regional versions of otherwise-supporting models ship without it. The EID on your own screen settles it; a model list cannot.

Step 2
Buy the plan and keep the order open
Choose your plan in the Balkan eSIM app. After payment the QR code and the manual activation details stay saved under your order, reachable again from a hotel or a fuel stop if the first install does not take.

Step 3
Install on Wi-Fi before you set off
The download itself needs internet, so do it at home. It costs nothing to install early — the plan starts counting when the line first connects inside the covered area, not when you buy it.

Step 4
Go to Settings, Connections, SIM manager
On recent One UI the path is Settings, then Connections, then SIM manager. Older builds call the same screen SIM card manager and put it somewhere slightly different. If you cannot see it, use the search box at the top of Settings and type SIM.

Step 5
Tap Add eSIM, then scan the QR code
Some builds offer Add eSIM straight away; others show Scan carrier QR code, or ask you to pick a SIM slot first. Scan the code from a laptop or a passenger's phone. With no second screen, choose manual entry and copy the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your order.

Step 6
Name the line and leave it off until you arrive
Call it Balkan or Trip so you can tell the two lines apart at a glance, and leave your usual SIM handling calls and messages. Switch the new line off for now — it will wait, installed, for as long as you need.

Step 7
Turn it on and make it your data line
Once you are inside the covered area, open SIM manager, switch the Balkan eSIM line on, and set it as the preferred SIM for mobile data. Leave calls and texts pointed at your own SIM, which still holds your number.

Step 8
Roaming on for the eSIM, off for your home SIM
In Settings, Connections, Mobile networks, turn Data roaming on and make sure it applies to the eSIM line — on dual-SIM Galaxies the setting is per line, so check which one you are editing. Every network on this plan is a visited network, so without that toggle the line will not attach. Then confirm data roaming is off for your home SIM. That is the one that can quietly cost you the moment you leave the EU.
Troubleshooting
Will this eSIM keep working when I reach Türkiye?
No. Türkiye is not part of this plan and no setting changes that — the line stops carrying data at the Turkish border. If you are driving to or from Türkiye, buy the separate Türkiye plan in the app as well and switch which SIM carries data once you are across. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Romania and Slovenia are outside this bundle too.
Is my Galaxy model supported?
Type *#06# in the dialler and look for an EID. Support depends on the model, the region it was sold in and the carrier variant, so some regional versions of models that support eSIM elsewhere do not have it. That is why we point you at your own screen instead of a model list we cannot verify.
There is no SIM manager, or no Add eSIM button inside it.
Open Settings and search for SIM — One UI has moved this screen between versions. If the entry exists but there is no way to add an eSIM, the usual causes are no eSIM hardware, which *#06# will tell you, or a carrier lock. A locked handset has to be released by the operator that sold it, which is a job for before you travel.
I have crossed a border and the phone has no data.
Give it a few minutes first — the switch to a new network happens on its own and is not instant. If nothing changes, toggle Airplane mode off and on. Still nothing: in Mobile networks, turn off Select network automatically for the eSIM line, pick one of the networks the phone finds, and set it back to automatic once you are underway.
Does data roaming being on mean I get charged for roaming?
Not on this line. It is prepaid for use across the countries the plan covers and no home operator is involved to bill you — the toggle only lets the line register on a network it does not own. Your own SIM is a different matter, which is why it stays off there.
Can I share the connection with the rest of the car?
Yes, tethering is included. Turn on Mobile Hotspot on the Galaxy holding the eSIM and everyone else connects to that. The plan is data-only: no phone number, no calls, no SMS. Your own SIM stays in charge of that.
